Pettipaug Sailing Academy (PSA) 2022 registration is open.

We are very excited to share that we plan to run PSA this summer again. As we all have experienced during the past couple of years, terms and conditions for any programming are very fluid due to the pandemic.

PYC and PSA will monitor and follow all state, local and CDC COVID-19 regulations and guidelines as they pertain to our program. The state, local and CDC list of requirements may be increased or relaxed overtime. We will adjust accordingly.

Precautions that we may need to take are:
• Social distancing
• Efficient controlled drop off, pick up and group attendance
• Small sailing groups that will maintain separation from one another
• Staggered launch and landing of boats
• Face masks or buffs on shore
• Require permission and a commitment from doublehanded sailors

Specific policies and requirements will be determined and shared with PSA sailors and their families at the beginning of the 2022 PSA sailing season. Once determined and shared, families will need to sign the Junior Program and Covid Rules Agreement.

Families providing their own boat, should plan for a “Safety Check In” with the PSA Chair before the start of the program.

It has not yet been determined how rain dates and regattas will be handled.

PSA is an instructional sailing program for juniors, ages 8 and up. It is conducted from late June to mid-August at the Pettipaug Yacht Club. There are two three-week sessions during the season; each session is divided into morning and afternoon classes. Morning classes typically are for beginners and junior sailors ages 8 to 11, when the winds are usually the lightest. Afternoon classes are for older returning sailors.

PSA is all about FUN on the water and teaching many important life lessons along the way – sailing/racing skills, adapting to the forces of nature, personal responsibility and sportsmanship to name a few.

Classes are conducted in: Optimist dinghies, 420s and O'pen BICs. Boat ownership is not required.

The PSA Director is supported by certified US Sailing instructors trained in first aid and CPR.
